In a thick forest, two monkey brothers took care of a big group of monkeys.
They were happy and also looked after their blind mother who lived under a bush.
Every day, they would eat their fill and send sweet fruits to their mother.
But the fruits never reached her because the other monkeys in the group ate them.
So their mother went without food and became weak.
When the older brother visited his mother, he saw how weak she was.
He asked her, “Mother, we send you the sweetest fruits every day, but you still look weak. Why?”
His mother was surprised and said, “Sweet fruits? Son, I have never tasted such fruits!”
The son monkey understood what had happened to the fruits.
He thought, “I have been a bad son. While my mother is hungry, I am staying with the other monkeys.
If I keep living here, my mother will die. I can’t let that happen.”
He told his brother, “Dear brother, I have decided to make you the leader of the monkeys. I will take care of our mother.”
But the younger brother refused and said, “No, brother. I don’t want to be the leader either. I also want to take care of our mother.”
So they both gave up their leadership and moved to another forest with their mother. They lived on a banyan tree there.
In a nearby city, there was a young man who had just finished his studies. He went to say goodbye to his teacher.
The teacher advised him, “Son, remember that people who do bad things do not succeed.
They have to suffer in the end. You should not be bad or cruel to anyone.”
The young man saluted his teacher and left.
But instead of following his teacher’s advice, he became a hunter.
One day, he couldn’t catch any prey. It was getting late in the evening, and he was thinking of going home when he saw the two monkeys and their blind mother.
The young man watched the mother monkey and thought, “Instead of going home empty-handed, I should carry this old monkey.”
Just then, the older monkey brother saw the hunter and said to his brother, “This hunter wants to kill our mother. I must save her. I will sacrifice myself for her. After I die, you must take care of her.”
He quickly jumped from the tree just as the hunter was about to shoot at his mother.
He spoke to the hunter and said, “Please don’t kill my mother. She is old, weak, and blind. Have mercy on her. You can take my life instead.
Saying this, he sat in front of the hunter, who shot an arrow and killed him.
The hunter then greedily aimed his arrow at the mother.
Now the younger monkey thought, “What a heartless man! He is aiming at my mother again. Now it’s my turn to save her!”
So he also came out of his hiding place and pleaded, “Please don’t kill my mother. Spare her and kill me instead.”
Then he too sat in front of the hunter, who killed him. Even after hunting the two monkeys, the hunter was not satisfied.
He also killed their old mother and went home without feeling sorry.
Suddenly, the sky became dark with clouds, and there was thunder and lightning everywhere.
When the hunter reached home, he found out that lightning had killed his wife and two sons, and his house had burned down to ashes, except for a pillar.
As he stood there crying for his loss, the pillar fell on his head and killed him instantly. While dying, he remembered his teacher’s words.
Moral: Those who are cruel will bear the consequence of their sinful deeds.
Faithful monkeys show us the power of loyalty, love, and strong bonds in the animal world. Their caring nature, protective instincts, and deep connections remind us how important trust and companionship are. These animals teach us that faithfulness isn’t just human—it’s a beautiful trait found across species, especially among monkeys.
