In pharmacology, drug means a chemical substance used to cure, prevent or diagnose specific disease and help to get rid of it. A pharmaceutical drug is named as medicine which produces a biological impact.

How Do Drugs Affect the Brain?

Move further to take a look at it’s effect to the brain. The brain is the most crucial and complex organ of your body. It works for 24/7. The functioning of the brain is uncountable and that is the reason you need to take care of it. 

  • The brain is a collection of cells called neurons or nerves. Various neurons assist to send your thoughts to others regarding what you sensing, feeling. The drug can modify the chemical level of the brain. It targets the brain’s reward system directly or indirectly.
  • A neuron has three different parts: axon, dendrites and nucleus. Space between axon and dendrites is called a synapse. Synapse assist to exchange electromagnetic signals between neurons. Drug interfere with the way neuron sending, receiving or processing information and it is occurring using neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters that modulates your mood.
  • Drugs like marijuana and heroin have a similar structure to chemical messengers that are neurotransmitters. These drugs can make fool the brain’s receptors and activate nerve cells to send the incorrect message.
  • Morphine is one painkiller, that increases the level of serotonin and noradrenaline. It helps to regulate the alertness, energy.

Next, amphetamine or cocaine. It is an illegal drug that you listen in news headlines. However, the purpose behind to tell you is, cocaine also affect badly. It prevents normal cycling of brain chemicals. It can cause to release natural neurotransmitters abnormally.

For euphoria, dopamine is responsible and dopamine is a neurotransmitter. Euphoria gives the experience of pleasure, satisfaction, excitement, other activities like listening to music, laughing, dancing etc.
