Once, there was a Brahmin named Deva Sharma who lived in a town.

His wife, Brahmini, gave birth to a son, and around the same time, a female mongoose died after giving birth to a baby mongoose.

Brahmini fears the mongoose might harm her son.

Brahmini tells her husband she is going to fetch water.

However, she never left her son alone because she didn’t trust the mongoose. She was afraid that it might harm her child.

She warns her husband to watch the mongoose carefully.

One day, Brahmini told her husband that she was going to the lake to get water. She said, “My dear, I’m going to fetch water.”

The Brahmin assures her the baby is sleeping safely.

She asked him to make sure that the mongoose didn’t harm the child, and then she left.

Brahmini remains afraid the mongoose could harm her child.

Deva Sharma reassured her, saying, “Don’t worry, my dear! He’s peacefully sleeping in the cradle.”

The Brahmin leaves home to beg for alms.

The Brahmini responded, “I understand that. But I’m concerned about the mongoose, worried that it might harm our son.”

A black cobra slithers into the house toward the baby.

After she left, the Brahmin also left the house to beg for alms, leaving the house empty.

The mongoose notices the cobra near the sleeping baby.

Just then, a black cobra slithered into the house and slowly approached the sleeping baby.

The brave mongoose attacks the cobra fiercely.

The mongoose, who was nearby, saw the cobra and realized that the baby was in danger.

The mongoose kills the cobra and saves the child’s life.

The mongoose courageously attacked the cobra, fighting fiercely and tearing it into pieces.

He scattered the bits far and wide, feeling happy that he had saved the baby.

She sees blood on the mongoose and fears he killed her son.

When Brahmani returned home, the mongoose came out to welcome her, thinking that she would be happy to see that he had killed the cobra.

In anger, she kills the innocent mongoose with her water pot.

However, upon seeing the blood on the mongoose’s mouth, Brahmini was shocked.

Brahmini finds her baby safe beside the dead cobra.

She immediately thought, “Oh God! What has he done to my son? He must have killed him…”

Devastated, she realizes her horrible mistake.

In a blind rage and without looking around, she dropped the water pot on the poor little mongoose, instantly killing him.

She regrets acting in anger without thinking.

When Brahmini went inside, she found her son sleeping peacefully, and she noticed the dead snake nearby.

Brahmini mourns the brave mongoose who saved her son.

Realising her terrible mistake, she thought, “Oh God, what have I done? What a terrible person I am!”
