What is my biggest muscle?
A muscle is a group of muscle tissues which connect together to perform some specific work.
What are muscle tissue?
- Muscle tissue are the soft tissue that makes up the muscle in human body.
- Muscle tissues are composed of cells that have the ability to contract allowing the movement of human body parts.
- These cells are elongated and slender also called as muscle fiber.
Basically there are three types of muscles present in human body:
- Smooth muscle
- Cardiac muscle
- Skeletal muscle
Smooth muscle are found in the different parts of the human body such as on the wall of hollow organs except of heart. They work involuntarily. One of the main function of smooth muscle is contraction. The movement of chyme in intestine is done by smooth muscle.
Cardiac muscle are found only in the heart of human body. They also work on their own. The primary function of this muscle is to help in the contraction of heart for easy pumping of blood to other body parts.
Skeletal Muscle are mostly found in the joints of human body. They are the voluntary type of muscle. Their main function is to help in the movement of human body parts.
The biggest muscle of the human body is named as Gluteus Maximus.
Gluteus Maximus:
- It is one of the longest muscle among the three gluteal muscle group.
- It is skeletal type of muscle.
- It is located at the buttock region in our body.
- The gluteus Maximus muscle is responsible for the movement of thigh and hip.
- Standing up from a sitting position as well as climbing stairs or staying erect in a position are all done by the help of Gluteus Maximus muscle.
Fun Facts:
- The smallest muscle of human body “stapedius” is present in the inner ear.
- 40% of your total body weight is because of muscles.
- Muscles can not push, they can only pull.
Additional questions:
