There was a rich man who had a clever and talented son.
The boy grew up to become an expert elephant trainer. He trained the elephants to perform impressive war skills.
The king was amazed by his abilities and made him the chief trainer of all the royal elephants.
One day, a young man from the city came to him to learn how to train elephants.
He learned all the skills diligently and became skilled at handling the elephants.
The master trainer taught him everything he knew. When the young man became proficient in all the tricks.
He told his teacher, “Teacher, I want to serve the king just like you.”
The teacher recommended him to the king, saying, “Your Majesty, my student wants to serve you.
I can assure you that he has the same qualities as me.”
The king agreed and said, “Okay, let him serve me. But he will receive only half of your income.”
When the teacher told this to his student.
The student objected, “Sir, I know as much as you do. Why should I be paid only half of what you receive?
I will only serve the king if I am paid the same as you. Otherwise, I won’t serve him.
The teacher informed the king about his student’s decision.
The king said, “If he truly knows as much as you do, he must prove it. If his skills match yours, he will be paid the same.”
The teacher conveyed the king’s challenge to his student, and a competition was arranged for the next day.
The student felt very sure of his abilities.
But the teacher, although he knew he had trained the student well, still believed he was wiser.
So, the teacher decided to trick the student. He trained a specific elephant to do the opposite of what the student commanded.
For example, when the student said “Go ahead, ” the elephant would step back.
When the student said “Step back, ” the elephant would go ahead. They practiced all these wrong commands the night before.
The next morning, both the teacher and the student arrived at the royal courts.
The teacher rode his favorite elephant, while the student came on a grand elephant.
There was a huge crowd waiting to see their performance, and even the king was there. The show was about to begin.
But the student didn’t know that the teacher had replaced his original elephant with the one he had trained to do the wrong tricks.
The audience was excited to see the elephants perform.
The show started, and when the student commanded his elephant to go ahead, it stepped back instead.
When he told it to step back, it raced ahead. The elephant did everything opposite to what the student wanted.
When it was the teacher’s turn, he confidently showed off his skills with his favorite elephant.
The student was amazed by the teacher’s spectacular performance.
The audience became angry with the student and yelled, “You wicked student! How dare you compete with your teacher?
You don’t know your limitations. Do you think you know as much as your teacher?”
The people threw stones at the student and beat him with sticks.
He ran away from the palace and was never seen there again.
Moral: Never try to compete with your master.
In the end, The Wicked Pupil reminds us that bad choices and poor behavior can lead to serious consequences. It shows how dishonesty and disrespect not only harm others but also bring downfall to the wrongdoer. True learning comes from humility, respect, and the willingness to grow and change.
