Math for Kids Measurement

Why do we need to measure? There are many reasons. Measuring helps us make sure that the things we make turn out as planned.

Measurement-When you measure, you find the size or quantity of something.

Bakers carefully measure ingredients for a recipe so that their treats taste yummy and delicious

Amount: an amount of something tells how much of an ingredient is in it.

Ingredients: Ingredients are one of the things that go into a mixture. When you make cookies, you use many ingredients such as flour, salt, eggs, and sugar.

Butchers use scales to measure the weight of meat to sell in the supermarket, but measurements are not only used with food.

Weighing Scale– A weighing scale measures the weight or mass of objects. It is used to weigh packets of food items to find out how heavy or light they are.

Weight -weight means how heavy or light something is

Lengthlength means how long something is For example, a school bus has a greater length than a car

Carpenters use measuring tapes to decide how long things need to be. They need to make sure everything is the right size.

Size means how big or small something is

Police officers measure the speed of cars. They need to check that everyone is driving at a safe speed.

Speed means how fast or slow something is going.
Check– When you check something, it means you make sure it is correct.

Track coaches use clocks to measure the time it takes a racer to travel a distance from one place to another.

Distance -Distance means how far apart two things are. The distance between a person’s eyes is less, as their eyes are close to each other.

The space between someone’s head and feet is long because those two things are far apart.

Doctors measure all sorts of things, such as your height, your weight, and your temperature, to make sure you’re healthy.

Temperature tells you how hot or cold something or someone is.

Temperature brings us back to baking! When you bake, you have to set the oven to the right temperature so your desserts taste delicious.

You can apply measurements to anything you do.
