There was a teacher who had five hundred students.
When his daughter became a young woman, he started thinking about her marriage.
He wanted to find a suitable husband for her among his students.
So, he came up with a plan to test their character and see who would be good enough to take care of his daughter.
The teacher gathered all his students and told them, “My dear students, I want to marry my daughter to one of you.
But I don’t have enough clothes and ornaments for the wedding.
I want each of you to secretly take some clothes and ornaments from your relatives’ homes without anyone seeing you.
I will only accept those items that you bring without getting caught.”
The students followed their teacher’s instructions and went to their relatives’ homes. They brought back clothes and ornaments as they were told.
Each student had something to present, except for one student who returned empty-handed.
Curious, the teacher called the student and asked, “My dear son, did you bring any clothes or ornaments?”
The student replied, “No, sir!”
The teacher wondered and asked, “Why not, son?”
The student explained, “I knew that you wouldn’t accept anything if someone had seen me taking it. I couldn’t find a hiding place where no one would see what I was bringing.
Even if no one else was there, I would still know that I was taking things without permission, and my conscience didn’t allow me to do that.”
The teacher was pleased with the student’s honesty and goodness.
He said, “My dear son, I actually have all the money and ornaments needed for my daughter’s wedding.
I was testing the morals of my students to find a suitable match for my daughter.
After seeing your honesty, I have decided that you are the right person for her.”
Then the teacher married off his daughter to the honest student.
To the other students, he said, “You can take the money you brought back to your homes.”
Moral: Be righteous and truthful. One who follows the right doctrine succeeds in life
The good pupil stands out through hard work, discipline, and a desire to learn. With respect for teachers and kindness to others, they inspire their classmates and grow into responsible individuals. Their journey reminds us that true success lies not just in marks, but in character and continuous self-improvement.
