Creative learning is important as different unique ideas help kids to know more rather than fundamental root learning. Through this activity, kids will learn number counting differently and interestingly which will help in learning more. This activity does not use expensive supplies that will cost you, rather you can do this activity with homemade supplies. This activity is also time-friendly as it won’t take much of your time.

Suitable for:

This activity is for young kids from three to five years old as they learn the basic foundation of number counting through this brilliant and creative activity.

What You’ll Learn:

  1. Number Counting: Kids will learn to recognize and count numbers from 1 to 10.
  2. Object Counting: They will practice counting objects (cotton swabs) and matching them to the corresponding number.
  3. Fine Motor Skills: Activities like cutting, coloring, and placing cotton swabs help improve hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
  4. Creativity and Art Skills: Drawing and coloring the tree, as well as painting with cotton swabs, encourage artistic expression.
  5. Focus and Patience: Completing the activity step-by-step helps children develop concentration and patience.

Material Required:

  1. Cardboard: To create the base for the activity.
  2. Markers: For writing numbers and drawing the tree.
  3. Long Nail: To poke holes in the cardboard.
  4. Cotton Swabs: To use as “apples” for counting.
  5. Packing Tape: To laminate the cardboard and make it durable.
  6. Red Paint: To dip the cotton swabs and create “apples.”
  7. Bowl: To hold the paint and water mixture.

Procedure of Making:

  1. Prepare the Cardboard Pieces:
    • Cut ten rectangular pieces of cardboard.
    • On the left side of each piece, use a black marker to write numbers from 1 to 10 in large, bold letters.
    • On the right side, draw a tree using green (for leaves) and black (for the trunk) markers.
  2. Laminate the Cardboard:
    • Cover each cardboard piece with packing tape to make it durable and reusable.
  3. Create Holes for the “Apples”:
    • Use a long nail to poke holes in the tree area of each cardboard piece. The number of holes should match the number written on the left side (e.g., 1 hole for the number 1, 2 holes for the number 2, etc.).
  4. Prepare the Paint:
    • Mix red paint with a small amount of water in a bowl to create a thin, dip-able consistency.
  5. Start the Activity:
    • Ask your child to dip a cotton swab into the red paint.
    • Have them place the cotton swab into one of the holes on the tree, corresponding to the number written on the left side.
    • Repeat until all the holes are filled with “apples.”
  6. Reinforce Number Recognition:
    • After placing the cotton swabs, ask your child to use the black marker to trace or write the number inside the large number on the left side.
  7. Review and Repeat:
    • Once the activity is complete, review the numbers and counting with your child.
    • You can repeat the activity multiple times to reinforce learning.

By combining creativity with foundational learning, this activity ensures that children not only learn but also enjoy the process, making it a valuable addition to their early education.
