Mixed rounding, as the name suggests, refers to a process where different rounding rules are applied to adjust the number to its nearest number. This mixed rounding exercise is specially designed for 4th graders to develop their critical thinking and find out the best approach for their solutions. Below we have provided three mixed rounding exercises that help kids understand number sense.

- 922 = 920
- 462 =460
- 6,482 = 6,500
- 1,515 = 2,000
- 7,475 = 7,480
- 63,450 = 60,000
- 933,706 = 934,000
- 9,583 = 10,000
- 278 = 300
- 3,045 = 3,000
- 615 = 620
- 36,836 = 37,000
- 899 = 900
- 2,478 = 2,000
- 44,092 = 40,000
- 326,734 = 330,000
This mixed rounding exercise will help kids know when and how to round a number, which is helpful for kids in their real-life scenarios. In this exercise, there are a total of sixteen queries that kids have to perform and according to the numbers, we have to apply rounding rules. For if the number is in three digits, then we have to apply the hundred nearest rule and if the value is in four digits, then we have to apply the thousand nearest rule.
- 827 = 830
- 1,093 = 1,000
- 9,356 = 9,400
- 71,467 = 70,000
- 4,579 = 5,000
- 8,151 = 8,150
- 32,578 = 33,000
- 856,342 = 860,000
- 421 = 400
- 6,389 = 6,000
- 92,356 = 90,000
- 652 = 700
- 5,318 =5,300
- 13,367 = 10,000
- 78,454 = 78,000
- 732,266 = 732,270
In this exercise, we have the same number of queries, which is sixteen. Kids need to solve all the queries. Let’s take an example for understanding this exercise: 71,467. As we can see, the number is in five digits, so we have to apply the thousand nearest rule. So look at the digit in the thousand’s place (1) that is less than 5 so we need to perform a rounddown. And the rounding value for 71,467 is 70000
- 7,385 = 7,400
- 279 = 300
- 5,214 = 5,210
- 6,356 = 6,000
- 44,467 =40,000
- 34,789 = 35,000
- 14,468 = 10,000
- 98,359 = 98,360
- 684 = 680
- 4,102 = 4,000
- 5,467 = 5,500
- 1,578 = 1,580
- 65,356 = 70,000
- 321,895 = 320,000
- 152,578 = 153,000
- 79,304 = 80,000
In this exercise, the number ranges are increased, but it is important to understand the process, because if kids know the process then they can solve any number with any range. We hope this exercise will work for kids to understand critical math problems and help them build confidence. And we assume this exercise will be performed by kids without any help. And if kids face any issue, they can see the solved examples.
This rounding exercise is specially designed for the 4th graders. It will help kids to improve adaptability; kids will learn how to make decisions depending on their situations. And solving high-range numbers will make kids confident and feel more comfortable with math. These exercises will encourage them to solve any critical math equations without taking any help. So we hope this concept will prepare kids for future academic challenges and real-world problem-solving.
