India is a land of traditions, a land of courage and valor. A land where a new lesson is taught from each page of history. So let’s take a tour to the Golconda Fort, a tour from the fort of the Qutubshahi Sultans!!
- Golconda fort has beautiful carved walls, too high to climb.
- The fort is situated at heights and has high walls. The entrance gate is also high, that required many people to open/close the gates.
- The fort has bastions (burj) that are higher than the walls of the fort. It is said that the outer wall only has 87 bastions.
- Just imagine the security the ‘then’ emperor had around the fort. Huge and thick walls with bastions around making it impossible for the enemies to attack the fort.
- On entering the palace, one could see beautifully carved walls, finest creation of time.
- The fort still has the “big gun”, the cannon. It is said that it was used by Aurangzeb. It was made of bronze.
Arrangements for Water:
- A superb arrangement to draw water from the rivers was made.
- Clay pipes could be still seen in the walls of the fort
- these pipes must have been used to draw water
Mehrab (the big arch)
- While walking through the fort, one will encounter arched tunnels (also known as mehrab)
- one could hear their voice while walking through the arch, i.e., the voices echo in the tunnel
- It is said that the soldiers used to live here
Imagine the beauty of the fort when it had the King and his queens, the servants and other people. The beauty of the carved walls, the smell of the flowers, the decorations in the palace, the delicacies cooked daily, oh what a pleasant life it would have been! But we cannot ignore the terror wars would have caused, the deaths of the soldiers, the blood shed and the devastation. Then or now, history has its own beauty.
