Converting a decimal number is a type of process where we need to convert the normal decimal number form to its expanded form. It is a simple process that helps kids learn about decimal numbers and how numbers are converted. Below, there are a total of four exercises, each containing nine queries. So, kids need to complete all the queries.

- 2.37 = 2 x 1 + 3 x 0.1 + 7 x 0.01
- 20.4 = 2 x 10 + 4 x 0.1
- 163.638 = 1 x 100 + 6 x 10 + 3 x 1 + 6 x 0.1 + 3 x 0.01 + 8 x 0.001
- 0.174 = 1 x 0.1 + 7 x 0.01 + 4 x 0.001
- 0.583 = 5 x 0.1 + 8 x 0.01 + 3 x 0.001
- 0.105 = 1 x 0.1 + 5 x 0.001
- 725.319 = 7 x 100 + 2 x 10 + 5 x 1 + 3 x 0.1 + 1 x 0.01 + 9 x 0.001
- 0.372 = 3 x 0.1 + 7 x 0.01 + 2 x 0.001
- 51.1 = 5 x 10 + 1 x 1 + 1 x 0
This concept will improve kids’ mathematical skills. Above, we have a table that contains a total of nine queries, and for each query, we have to follow some rules. So, to convert normal to expanded form, we have to multiply the number by 1 and 0.1 according to their place values. Let’s understand through an example: 2.37. So the first step is to solve the number before the decimal by multiplying by 1, and multiplying by 0.1 after the decimal. After calculating, we need to add both parts. Now check if the calculation is equal to the given number, which means we got the correct answer. So the final expanded answer is 2 x 1 + 3 x 0.1 + 7 x 0.01.
- 2.61 = 2 x 1 + 6 x 0.1 + 1 x 0.01
- 0.468 = 4 x 0.1 + 6 x 0.01 + 8 x 0.001
- 0.105 = 1 x 0.1 + 5 x 0.001
- 815.637 = 8 x 100 + 1 x 10 + 5 x 1 + 6 x 0.1 + 3 x 0.01 + 7 x 0.001
- 0.507 = 5 x 0.1 + 7 x 0.001
- 13,721.1 = 1 x 10000 + 3 x 1000 + 7 x 100 + 2 x 10 + 1 x 1 + 1 x 0.1
- 35.4 = 3 x 10 + 5 x 1 + 4 x 0.1
- 91.1 = 9 x 10 + 1 x 1 + 1 x 0.1
- 82,174.3 = 8 x 10000 + 2 x 1000 + 1 x 100 + 7 x 10 + 4 x 1 + 3 x 0.1
In this exercise, we have the same total of nine queries with different numbers, but the process will be the same. We need to multiply both numbers after the decimal and before according to their place values and then add both parts. Let’s understand through an example: 82,174.63. Now the first step is to multiply the numbers before the decimal according to their place value. As we can see, 8 is in ten thousand, 2 is in thousand, and the rest will be accordingly. And now multiply after thee decimal, so the 3 is in ones. The final expanded form is 8 x 10000 + 2 x 1000 + 1 x 100 + 7 x 10 + 4 x 1 + 3 x 0.1
- 6,293.7 = 6 x 1000 + 2 x 100 + 9 x 10 + 3 x 1 + 7 x 0.1
- 1.88 = 1 x 1 + 8 x 0.1 + 8 x 0.01
- 50.6 = 5 x 10 + 6 x 0.1
- 341.742 = 3 x 100 + 4 x 10 + 1 x 1 + 7 x 0.1 + 4 x 0.01 + 2 x 0.001
- 2.17 = 2 x 1 + 1 x 0.1 + 7 x 0.01
- 7,121.95 = 7 x 1000 + 1 x 100 + 2 x 10 + 1 x 1 + 9 x 0.1 + 5 x 0.01
- 0.551 = 5 x 0.1 + 5 x 0.01 + 1 x 0.001
- 3,911.14 = 3 x 1000 + 9 x 100 + 1 x 10 + 1 x 1 + 1 x 0.1 + 4 x 0.01
- 706.342 = 7 x 100 + 6 x 1 + 3 x 0.1 + 4 x 0.01 + 2 x 0.001
This concept of converting decimal numbers to their normal form will be helpful for kids; it will develop a strong number sense and make math easy and convivial. In this exercise, kids need to complete all the queries by following the guidelines. If kids face any problem during this task, they can see the solved example above.
- 57.21 = 5 x 10 + 7 x 1 + 2 x 0.1 + 1 x 0.01
- 1,633.06 = 1 x 1000 + 6 x 100 + 3 x 10 + 3 x 1 + 6 x 0.01
- 5,204.75 = 5 x 1000 + 2 x 100 + 4 x 1 + 7 x 0.1 + 5 x 0.01
- 2,730.12 = 2 x 1000 + 7 x 100 + 3 x 10 + 1 x 0.1 + 2 x 0.01
- 41.19 = 4 x 10 + 1 x 1 + 1 x 0.1 + 9 x 0.01
- 3,856.07 = 3 x 1000 + 8 x 100 + 5 x 10 + 6 x 1 + 7 x 0.01
- 94.3 = 9 x 10 + 4 x 1 + 3 x 0.1
- 1,044.31 = 1 x 1000 + 4 x 10 + 4 x 1 + 3 x 0.1 + 1 x 0.01
- 47.3 = 4 x 10 + 7 x 1 + 3 x 0.1
We hope you have completed the above task, and now you are enthusiastic and ready to solve this exercise. But this exercise is a little harder than the previous one. Remember! If you know the process, no matter how hard the exercise is, you can solve even harder problems. So we hope kids will solve this exercise without any help.
